Today, Aayisha Yahiya, the founder of Cake ‘O’ Clock joins us in this interview session to share her story.
Hi Aayisha, welcome to this interview session of conflatingVisions. To start with, please tell us a few lines about yourself.
I am Aayisha Yahiya, aged 21 years. I am a Bcom graduate from Chinmaya Vidyapeeth and is currently pursuing MBA through distance education to support my passion for baking. As a young teenager, my ambition was to reach places in life through a Masters degree. But life has its own dimensions and hence I am here taking up the role of a professional home baker who aspires to spread happiness all over through the art of baking. It’s been a year since this art has been my strongest passion. I am really glad about how things have turned out for me!
You are an extremely creative cake artist and your edible baking and pastry arts are quite tempting. What is your memory of early association with arts?
The right kind of passion, dedication, skill and inspiration are all you need to get things right on the plate. For me, it’s my love for colours. The beauty of each and every minute thing have fascinated me and it has been my greatest share of inspiration in almost all my works.
I was never a great artist in my school days, but if you have the game to put in all your effort, sheer art and success start to reflect in your works.
What motivated you to become a professional baker?
Your first experiments always start with your near ones, family and friends. My closest bunch of people have always been a great motivation.
The immense support which they imparted acknowledging my works motivated me to take this as a serious profession. My Mother would help me at times of bulk orders for the fondant cutting works. My parents are always my strongest motivational pillars who push me to take up challenging works.
Have you ever attended baking courses at any baking school?
As a full-fledged baking course, I would say ‘no’. But I have attended short baking classes for the basics.
Please tell us about your home bakery Cake ‘O’ Clock.
Cake ‘O’ Clock is nothing less than a dream for me which took birth with the love and immense support expressed by my people. There is no better satisfaction than spreading happiness. I am always happy when my baked goodies bring smiling faces. It’s my pleasure to be a part of celebrations.
I always make it a point to provide fresh and custom made products with the perfect flavour of happiness through Cake ‘O’ Clock. We provide themed cakes, cupcakes of different flavours and designs, brownies, home-made chocolates, cookies and much more.
How was the feeling when you got your first order as a professional baker?
I was equally excited and had my fingers crossed. However, I always believed in taking up challenges and also considered my first order as a very challenging one.
What are some of the signature products of Cake ‘O’ Clock? Which one is your personal favourite?
Cake ‘O’ Clock has a Signature Chocolate Overload Cake topped with tonnes of yummy chocolates and ferreros for chocolate lovers. We also have Belgium Red Velvet Cake which is quiet in demand among the youngsters. We also have Butterscotch Praline Delight, Italian Vanilla with Strawberry Blush, Coffee Mocha for coffee lovers and many more on cakes.
We also do customize our flavours and designs as per requirements. Themed cupcakes are a strong craze among the youngsters. Kaju Badham cookie centered with salted caramel and choco fudge brownie is yet another one in our top hit list.
Being a chocolate lover, I would vote for CHOCOLATE, CHOCOLATE, EVERYWHERE!
What are some of the challenging cake ideas that you have executed till date?
There is no firm without challenges. One achieves variations and atonement in their profession only if they take up challenges. For me, no order has been less challenging and I have always contributed my maximum to make my baked goodies “THE BEST”.
I also had a tinge of new creations and designs into my works to make it stand out.
Being a baker, what are some of the challenges in life? How do you deal with them?
As a home baker, last minute bulk orders have only pressurized me.
So, I always make it a point to deal with early orders, so that I can contribute and give my level best for each of my creations.
Narrate some of your success stories.
I believe that everything made sweet has a story behind it. An immense happiness struck me when I was selected one among the top 3 rated cake artists of Cochin. That was an initial step towards my success story. The positive feedbacks of my clients and repeated orders are my success stories.
Aayisha, what plans do you have to scale up the operations of Cake ‘O’ Clock?
I would love to establish Cake ‘O’ Clock as a leading Cake Baking Institute, where I could donate some of my talents to the budding bakers.
Also, I would like to open up a small modern boutique cafe, with a perfect combo of ambiance along with my yummy treats!
Your advice to those who are looking to establish their careers in baking…
Baking is a creativity. Being a baker or a pastry chef, you simply can’t throw things together at a farmer’s market. When you are working with baking powder and a formula, you have to be exact. It is not an assumption been made.
Measurements and patience are two sides of a coin for a baker.
Anything else you want to share…
My idea of baking is not buying a ready made cake mix and throwing in an egg. It is an art of creating sweetness. Make happiness for everything you do and it’s only through enjoyment we endure.
And one last question of this session Aayisha, if you have had one wish…
My all time wish would be to take up a Certification in Pastry Chef from any renowned Baking School and as already said, open up a small institution for baking courses along with my boutique cafe.
Happy baking folks!
