Savji Dhanji Dholakia, the billionaire businessman spent as much as Rs. 51 crores on Diwali bonuses for the employees of his company, Hari Krishna Exports. Even in an earlier year’s Diwali, the company gifted 491 cars and 200 flats to its employees. Savji Dhanji Dholakia’s early days
Savji Dhanji Dholakia was born in the year 1962. He hails from a farming family in the Dudhala village of Gujarat’s Amreli district. When he was 13, he dropped out of school and started working at his uncle’s diamond business in Surat. While assisting his uncle in his business, Savji Dholakia gained enough exposure and experience in diamond trading.
Hari Krishna Exports – Now and Then!
In 1992, Dholakia launched his own business of diamond cutting and polishing under the trade name Hari Krishna Exports in Surat. He took a personal loan from his uncle to set up the business. In the initial years, the business only had a few machines and employees. Savji Dholakia, the visionary founder gradually expanded its operations.
Hari Krishna Exports is now a leading name across the world in the field of diamond manufacturing. It exports polished diamonds to 79 countries and manufactures over 40,000 carats of diamonds each month. The company presently employs more than 6,500 people. And, all these wouldn’t have been possible without the dedicated efforts of Dholakia.

A lesson for Dholakia’s son
When Dholakia started his diamond manufacturing and polishing business, he had to build everything from scratch. He also wanted his son Dravya to face the reality. With Rs. 7,000 and three sets of clothes, he sent his son to Kochi to establish himself with his own identity by taking up a job. The idea was to make Dravya understand the meaning of struggle!
Relationship with the employees – A lesson that other employers can learn!
Savji Dholakia treats his employees as his own family members. The beautiful bonding with the employees has earned Dholakia the nickname “Kaka” in his company. And, because of this, each and every employee of Hari Krishna Exports tries to give their best performance to the company.
