We all love to surprise someone special in our lives. And, when the surprise turns out to be unique, it fills the hearts of our loved ones with immense joy. The real challenge, however, lies in the proper execution of the ideas as they are planned. This is where Hyderabad-based Aawestruck fits in to transform the special occasions of our lives into memories that can be cherished throughout the lifetime. Harika Jeewak is the person behind Aawestruck. She is an amazing person who has always loved to take the road less travelled. As a civil engineer, Harika has worked in the male dominated infra sector for about 10 years. In 2014, she decided to take a break from her successful career as a civil engineer to follow her dreams. This was when Aawestruck was born.
The idea was to bring a change in the way we celebrate occasions materialistically. Harika wanted them to be more real and help people get that special attention which they deserved. Aawestruck presently operates in the Indian cities of Hyderabad and Vijayawada.
“How to surprise someone special?” Harika Jeewak can answer this question in different ways. In this session, Harika joins us to share her story.
Hi Harika, welcome to conflatingVisions. To start with, we would like you to say a few lines about yourself.
I come from a very simple and orthodox family in Hyderabad. My parents have always encouraged me to follow my dreams and live my life on my own terms. I always loved this lesson from the 4th grade “The road less travelled” by Robert Frost and eventually ended up taking the road less travelled all my life.
I graduated as a civil engineer from Chaitanya Bharathi Institute of Technology, Hyderabad and decided to stick to my core field. This was the biggest challenge in my life as the infra business is predominantly a male dominated industry. I worked for the business development department in the infra sector for about 10 years and the journey was no piece of cake. My work involved travelling to various places to improve local infra facilities like roads, bridges, urban amenities, etc. Travelling to places with lack of basic facilities and trying to improve their transport facilities was the biggest challenge I experienced and loved every bit of it.
My parents had always been my biggest support in regard to my career. Having worked for 10 years, I decided to take a break. I always had the idea of Aawestruck since last seven years, and during my break, I wanted to turn this into a reality.
Tell us about Aawestruck. What was the motivation behind launching such a wonderful service?
Aawestruck was born on 22nd December 2014 and we are into making people feel special with our surprises. We transform special occasions into memories to treasure for a lifetime. We craft and formulate birthday, anniversary, welcome home, and any regular day happiness surprises for our clients.
I had always been the first person amongst my family and friends to jump in and say let’s do this for their special days, and everybody loved my surprises. That’s when my husband gave me an idea to start a business on the same lines and this is how my passion became my business. I am a strong believer of the fact that a happy family is the key to be a happy person. A happy family makes way to a happy person which makes the whole community happy and helps them live in harmony. I call this the happiness cycle.
With our day to day life chaos, we forget to tell people we live with, how much they are important to us. We want to express our appreciation towards them and make them feel special but we lack original ideas and time. At Aawestruck, we plan thoughtful surprises for everyone based on their likes and dislikes.
I wanted to bring a change in the way we celebrate occasions materialistically. I wanted them to be more real and help people get that special attention which they deserved.
To pen down ideas to surprise someone special is comparatively easy than executing them. How difficult is it for you to execute the ideas as they were planned?
Definitely penning down ideas or to share an idea with someone is easy, but getting everything in place and executing the plan the same way is the biggest challenge. All of us like it perfect. The background work to get a perfect outlook is the toughest part. Only right planning and appropriate time management can make us achieve success. We at Aawestruck have our listed vendors who help us in getting things done on time. And our executors graciously manage time and work on the logistics to pull off the surprise at the desired time of the client.
How was the feeling when you got your first assignment? What was it all about?
Very exciting!!!!!!!! Words can’t describe the feeling. Our first project was a “Love story album” for a lady who wanted to propose her boyfriend for marriage. She wanted to gift the album to the guy, and bring back all the sweet moments they shared together and then propose him for the wonderful life ahead as a couple.
Harika, how is the journey so far for you?
Exciting!! Fun!!! Adventurous!! And a great learning experience. Easy is not the word when you want to chase your dreams. We need to make the journey exciting to keep up the spirits and get going.
Narrate some of Aawestruck’s success stories.
There are many by God’s grace. In almost all the 90 odd projects we have executed till date all gave us the same happiness which we gifted our customers.
One of the special ones which I wanted to share is, a client flew me down to Bangalore to execute his friend’s birthday. I was very excited to work on this particular task and I think this is one of those surprises which I pulled off very well. The client, as well as the gentleman for whom the surprise was planned, was very happy and thrilled to have been awestruck by our team.
What are the challenges you are facing at present? How do you plan to overcome them?
Not every person is ready for the kind of services we offer. The biggest challenge is to make people accept this service as everyone loves receiving surprises but not giving surprises.
What are your future plans for Aawestruck?
What you give is what you get back. As I plan to make the world happy, in turn, my world would be happy. What more can I ask for! Aawestruck is not just a business idea, but a dream to help people express what they feel about their loved ones. I think it will become an essential commodity in everyone’s life, just like salt which adds tastes to your life making the experience way better.
And one last question of this session Harika, if you have had one wish…
I would ask for more love in the world amongst people. As it is, there is no time for personal life and your loved ones. With love to be made felt and no time with individuals, Aawestruck comes into picture to help you make your loved ones feel special.
