Rivers are the most astonishing element in this world. They flow through its course, experiencing a young, mature and old stage in its lifetime, finally plunging into an ocean. On one hand, they can be a painter’s canvas, a lover’s ecstasy, a poet’s poem while on the other it’s a source of enormous energy. With the help of a mere turbine, they can produce megawatts of electricity and lighten up billions of houses and alleys. Treasures of Innocence tries to be that turbine in the flow of the children’s lives. The organization wants to be that factor in a child’s life, which can help to bring the best of the creativeness he or she possesses.

The Vision and the Start
It’s in 2013 the organization was founded by Rani Bhowani with a noble cause to ignite the minds of millions of children and then onwards the organization works relentlessly to help out the children to Dream Big. Rani, an alumnus of Calcutta University, Economics Department, dreams of a world where young minds will be empowered to think big and stand with courage, curiosity, confidence and creativity. Day in and day out she works to make her dream a reality.
Irrespective of the backgrounds and challenges every child has one thing in common and that is the inquisitive, innocent mind in them. The mind which can dream to fly high, to build something unimaginable, to go somewhere unthinkable, to discover something undiscovered, a mind that can ask simple but powerful questions and to hope for a better future. It is this hope that binds us together, pushes us to work with the children from difficult backgrounds in different forms and shapes. The challenge is to take the white untouched canvas and paint it with the color of joy and success and we will continue to work for it.
Working Methodology of Treasures of Innocence
We follow the TIAL framework – T > Think, I > Ideate, A > Act, L > Lead to plug-in the gap which the present school teaching methodology of rote learning ignores. We believe until and unless an individual learns how to think about a problem, may it be in studies or in daily life, think about the probable solution, have an idea of his/her own, and act accordingly to face the problem, he/she can never stand in life and achieve success. We nurture the more creative and curious side of a child and encourage them to create something new and sort out their own problems. We believe in the famous quote of the Jewish philosopher Maimonides, “Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day; teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime.”
Through our creativity-based learning program, we try to bring out the creative power of children. They are sensitized about the world and their environment. Apart from life skill development programme, boosting up the confidence level and bringing out the leadership skill in children we help them in improving their imagination and language skills through book making and assisted reading. Already Six colourful picture story books were created by children through our guidance. These books were published and got huge appreciation at national and international level.
“I have never thought that we could be able to create a story book which got published and people will love to read it. I love to attend the classes of Treasures of Innocence. They taught us how to think, imagine and give wings to our imagination. We were taught to give shape to a small idea into a complete picture story book through creative power, detail thinking, hard work and team effort. I came from a very poor background and faced lots of hardship. When I shared this joyful experience with my mother, she was so happy. I want to make my mother feel proud of me. I dream to write more stories and today I am confident that I Can Do!” ~ Gopal Das, Class VIII student of Cossipore Institution for Boys.
To inspire children to read books and to imagine more we create Reading Corners in different schools. We create library facilities for the children by the children. The children are introduced to a wide collection of books in various areas, enhancing their constructive powers & firing their imagination by making them think beyond course books. Learning becomes a “joyful journey” and self-discovery inside the world of books creates the mental stimulation of development. For each library, a committee is formed and librarians are selected from the children. Thus, the children learn to take responsibility, manage and care for their own belongings. They started reading more books and improving their knowledge beyond textbooks and developing their imagination.
Treasures of Innocence at present
At present, Treasures of Innocence is working in different government schools, shelter homes, orphanages, open shelters and slum areas in Kolkata and nearby places. In 2014, the organization was registered under West Bengal Society Registration Act and it runs with the support and love of friends, organizations and well-wishers. Many people joined our hands to make the mission of TOI successful. From school students to research scholars, from housewives, professionals to retired – so many passionate people are attached with us and giving their whole-hearted support and encouragement.
The wave has just formed, let it flow through the hearts of many more bright young minds, let the joy of knowledge overshadow the tears of illiteracy, let us make this world a better place to live.
“Building bridges between our divisions
I reach out for you, won’t you reach out for me?
With all of our voices and all of our visions
Friends, we can make such sweet harmony
Friends, we can make such sweet harmony.”
We expect your whole hearted support in any form and manners. We are highly grateful to all of you for your love and care.
