These 5 startups of the country purchase wastes so that they can be recycled again into beautiful products. Recycling helps to reduce energy usage, consumption of fresh raw materials, air pollution and water pollution by reducing the need for conventional waste disposal.
Karma Recycling was incorporated in the year 2013 by 2 college friends Akshat Ghiya and Aamir Jariwala. This 2 year old Delhi based startup operates on an innovative idea of e-recycling. It maintains an e-commerce website through which it purchases used electronic gadgets (e – wastes) like smartphones, tablets and laptops. The process of selling is quite simple. A seller needs to log on to their website and share some information about the gadget. Based on the information, the company gives a price quotation. If the seller agrees to trade off the gadget at that price, Karma Recycling sends an agent to the seller’s location for the pickup. The company re-sales the gadgets through different channels after performing minor repairs and full data wipe. It offers a 15 day money back guarantee on such devices. The gadgets which are beyond repair are recovered for parts or responsible recycling. The founder duo proudly says, “We have empowered many who could not afford a brand new mobile device with branded smartphones at low cost, allowing them to enter the mobile conversation. Through mobile device re-use, tons of e – waste is continually being diverted from landfills. The aim is to extend the life of a mobile device as much as possible, and when it cannot be extended any further, to recycle it responsible. We have restored an impressive 95% of mobile devices we’ve collected. The remaining 5% are recycled responsibly according to our zero landfill policy.”
